New Members
Welcome to the Heydon New Members' page
The club warmly welcomes new members. We run competitions and events throughout the year. Here we provide answers to the most common questions that all new members tend to ask (refer to Venerables member's site for details about their events).

Q: When do the different sections meet?
A: Men's section meet on Saturday and Sunday, plus a monthly mid-week medal on a Wednesday. Ladies meet on Wednesday and Saturday for competitions or social golf. The Venerables meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Q: How do I get an official club handicap?
A: Either provide our Handicap Secretaries with a certificate from your previous club or, if you do not have one, enter three cards for 18 hole rounds signed by a committee member or member authorised by the committee. If you have any difficulties finding a member to act as marker, please contact the relevant handicap secretary, who will be pleased to assist. If you had an official handicap at a previous club but many years ago, this information MUST be provided to the handicap secretary with the three cards and will be taken into consideration when a handicap is assigned.
Q: Where do I find out what is going on?
A: See the club notice board in the member's area for details about Men's and Mixed events (next to the Pro Shop), or the Ladies noticeboard (in their upstairs changing room) for Ladies events, this website or ask a committee member.
The Fixture Book provides details of all programmed events throughout the year. For details of competition format, refer to the relevant section page (Mens, Ladies or Mixed).
Q: How do I enter a competition?
A: For Men's, Ladies and Mixed competitions, you need to enter your name via HDID or the ClubV1 system and submit your entry fee before the closing date (or have paid the annual fee for Ladies comps). You will then be entered into the draw. You must have a valid handicap to enter any competition.

Q: Do I need to book tee-times?

A: In drawn competitions, tee-times will be arranged for you. At all other times, it is highly advisable to book a tee-time in advance. At weekends, Members reserved tee-times are 8:30 - 10:00 am - but you will still need to book. All players MUST report to the pro shop prior to playing.

Ladies tee times are also reserved from 10:00 - 10:30 am on Saturdays.
Q: What do members do when there is no competition?

A: For Men, on weekends when there is no competition, new members are encouraged to join in with social golf - just be at the club from about 8:15 am.

New lady members are encouraged to join in Ladies Mornings for social golf. Ladies are requested to arrive in the clubhouse by 9:30 am for a draw to take place.

On Bank Holidays, there is typically a mixed roll up. Check the Events & Socials page for dates and meet times.
In addition, there is a 9-hole mixed social 'Friday Nines' group which meets up at 5pm during the summer months; check the Events & Socials page for dates.
Q: Where do I find out more about the rules of golf?

A: Visit our Rules & Handicaps section - in addition to simple guidance on common situations, there are also links to the official R&A site where you can view the full rules.
